one who practices the art or process of forming decorative designs with hand or machine needlework
one who elaborates or embellishes
As an artist, I believe in embellishing the world around me, not as a means of stretching the truth, but pointing toward the beauty in each of us. To me, art is not a limited resource to enclosed buildings and expensive personal collections but rather an accessible means of expressing our existence to one another.
“I’m not an artist,” “I’ve never been very good at art:” have you ever said these statements but possessed an interest in proving yourself wrong? Do you enjoy other mediums of creativity and want to learn a new skill? Embroidery is a grounding and enjoyable way to create anywhere at your own pace, in your own way. My class teaches you 5 introductory stitches and provides you your own embroidery kit, allowing you to get started immediately in a supportive learning environment. Soon, you will be embroidering designs on just about everything.
I use embroidery in portraiture to give physical sharpness to a person, embodying in thread the texture of his or her story. My embroidery detail on objects like backpacks and clothing honors the things we use everyday—and gives my customers some flair that will stand out on the subway or in class.
